Opportunities are provided throughout the school for pupils across all year groups to practise and develop their abilities in a range of sports and skills.
Gymnastics and dance are taught through cross curricular links and linked to the school’s project themes. Children have the opportunity to develop skills in a wide range of sports including football, netball, hockey, cricket, touch rugby, rounders, lacrosse and athletics. The school also offers swimming lessons to pupils in Year 5.
The school encourages participation in local leagues and competitions. This provides the children with opportunities for many inter-school events during the year. The children at Sarisbury also have a variety of opportunities to participate in the extensive range extra-curricular sports activities.
We hold a number of sporting events during the school year. In May the school takes part in a sponsored Fun Run to support the school and a local or national charity. In June an enjoyable and popular Sports Day is held, which is well attended by parents and where all children participate.
Sport at SJS
The Government Sports Grant
In September 2013, the Government made dedicated sports funding available to schools in order to improve pupil participation and opportunities in school sport.
At Sarisbury, we have used this funding to undertake a variety of activities to enhance sports provision; full details of our use of this funding can be found in the document below.
